I have had the pleasure of working with Mr Gurjeet Jutley over the last eight months during my Ophthalmology Specialist Trainee rotation at the Oxford Eye Hospital. Mr Jutley was my theatre session supervisor and I have found these sessions very valuable both for learning new surgical skills (MIGS surgery, trabeculectomy, complex cataract cases) and for his tips on supervising more junior colleagues. He is a patient trainer who allows trainees to develop confidence and become more independent surgically while providing support as appropriate and ensuring patient safety. Observing his patient approach has been particularly useful as he is very thorough, honest and caring, resulting in very satisfied patients. He is keen on training and organised valuable additional glaucoma teaching sessions for us, and encouraged educational meeting attendance. Overall, I would certainly recommend his team as an excellent opportunity to train in latest advances in glaucoma surgery.
