Philip Bloom has clinical interests in Glaucoma & Cataract, is Honorary Professor of
Ophthalmology at Middlesex University, Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College
School of Medicine and Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at University College London
(UCL). He qualified in 1984 (Bristol University) and trained in Bristol, The Western Eye
Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. He is a Trustee and Board Member of the Royal
Society of Medicine (RSM), past President of the RSM Ophthalmology Section, a Keeler
Scholarship Board Trustee (Royal College of Ophthalmologists), President-Elect of the UK; Ireland Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS) and Chairman of the
International Glaucoma Association (IGA). His special clinical and research interests
include minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (including glaucoma laser treatments), neuroprotection, surgical simulation/training and spectacle independence after cataract surgery.
He adores film & all forms of music, dabbles in photography and singing, is married to a
Commissioning General Practitioner, has 2 children still in full-time education and a
considerably more rewarding border terrier. Rumours that he is burnt-out and cynical
should not be believed.
