SCOTT MICHELLE

Mr Jutley informed his lead nurse that I would be attending his clinic, so she was able to meet me and introduce me to the nursing assistant as well as explain the way the clinic runs and show me where we would be placed throughout the day.

I am a pharmacy technician at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. I was kindly invited by Mr Gurjeet Jutley  to shadow an Oxford Eye Hospital/glaucoma clinic placed in the Witney community hospital. This was in order to help me gain some experience and collect some essential placement evidence to complete an assignment for a post graduate certificate I am currently studying for.

Mr Jutley informed his lead nurse that I would be attending his clinic, so she was able to meet me and introduce me to the nursing assistant as well as explain the way the clinic runs and show me where we would be placed throughout the day.

As Mr Jutley saw his patients throughout the day, he clearly explained the reason for the patients appointment, explained how previous history occurrences may have affected the patient and resulted in their current presentation as well as elaborating on the patient’s medical treatment for my benefit from a pharmacy prospective. Mr Jutley explained his reasoning behind decisions as well as options available to both the patient and myself. He went out of his way to point out different ophthalmic conditions he had seen on the slit lamp and then explained the reasoning behind this in terms that I could clearly understand.

I found his method of teaching and his attitude towards his work both professional and exceptionally respectful. I was very impressed that he was able to accommodate my visit into his working routine. Mr Jutley’s shadowing placement has allowed me gather more than enough evidence to aid in completing my assignment and more importantly has contributed to my continued interest in the subject and practice of ophthalmic care.
